Students are creating floor plans. They are to have:
- minimum of 5 rooms - area and perimeter of 5 rooms (even if your house has more you only have to do 5) - neat, tidy and complete work - MUST show all of their work ie. A= l x w or P= (side1 x 2) + (side2 x 2) or P = all sides added up The Khan Academy has helped me as both a student and as a teacher. This site is full of helpful videos, quizzes and amazing resources all for FREE! You can sign up and track your progress or just watch the videos on youtube.
Needing some extra support with area and perimeter? This video, like many of the Khan Academy videos, is VERY helpful. A rectangle has dimensions 3cm by 5cm. What happens to the perimeter and area in each case?

Today we discussed measurement. It was a wonderful discussion where many students learned that the Metric System was more common than they thought! HERE is the worksheet they started today and will be completing tomorrow. This sheet will be a reference for the rest of the unit.
Our Geometry and Measurement unit requires the basic understanding of polygons. Students have a sheet with the basic REGULAR Polygons. For more support with polygons HERE is a link.
